Bihar Labour Dialogue 2025
A Milestone in Addressing Bihar’s Labour Challenges. We are thrilled to share that the Bihar Labour Dialogue, held on March 1st, 2025, was a resounding success with over 150 participants from diverse sectors! This landmark event brought together Trade Unions, Employers, Government officials, Academia, and Policymakers to address pressing labour issues in Bihar.
The dialogue, initiated by the Labour and Social Research Institute (LASRI) with IIBM Patna as the Academic Partner, tackled crucial topics including:
a. Skills strategy for building a highly productive workforce
b. Strengthening trade unions in changing times
c. Government policy interventions and reforms
d. Social protection and welfare measures
e. Technology’s impact on the future of work
f. Employer-employee relations
g. Labour migration and its impacat on employment, entrepreneurship, and trade union roles.
The timing couldn’t have been more critical. With Bihar’s overall Unemployment rate at 3.9% and in the 15-29 years age group at 13.9% (exceeding the national average), with 90% of the workforce engaged in unregulated jobs, and significant gender disparities (male WPR at 76.3% compared to female WPR at just 40.3%), these discussions were essential for charting a progressive path forward.
The event featured insightful keynote addresses, engaging panel discussions, interactive workshops, and valuable networking opportunities that fostered meaningful collaboration among stakeholders.
Special thanks to Keshar kumar, Chairman of Labour and Social Research Institute, and Dr. Rohit Singh Singh, Director Indian Institute of Business Management Patna, Chandraprakash Singh Vice President Indian National Trade Union Congress for their visionary leadership in making this dialogue possible. Their commitment to placing labour at the heart of discussions on industrialization and unemployment in Bihar has set the stage for transformative action.
This is just the beginning of our collective journey towards addressing Bihar’s labour challenges. The insights, strategies, and policy recommendations emerging from this dialogue will significantly contribute to reshaping Bihar’s labour landscape for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
